Thint-Set Mortar

Description: Carmelo Thin-Set Mortar is a dry set mortar for tile installation on floors and walls with extraordinary adhesion and workability properties that significantly facilitates and improves installation work.

Uses: To be used on concrete surfaces. For other surfaces such as: ceramic, marble terrazzo and gypsum board refer to the manual published by the “Tile Council of America, Handbook for Ceramic Tile Installation”.

Do not use over the following surfaces: glass, wood, metal and plastic.

Storage: Store in a moderate temperature dry place protected against water or other external agents.

Surface Preparation: Surface must be clean and free from oil, wax, grease, dust, detergents or any other
external matter.

Mix: Prepare a container with sufficient water to attain a desirable mix amount. Add bag content to the water. Mix thoroughly and slowly until the mix reaches a uniform state without any lumps. Slake for 15 minutes. Remix without any water addition. Verify consistency applying the mix on a vertical surface.

Mortar consistency shall be such that when applied, it maintains the peaks of the trowel’s notches. Do not use the mix once it has reached its initial set.

Installation: Apply the mortar uniformly over the surface with the plain side of the trowel. Mortar amount should be sufficient to insure a minimum thickness of 3/32 inches between tile and surface once the tile has been installed. Apply over an area that can be covered with tiles before skinning occurs. Using the recommended notched trowel, comb the mortar to produce a uniform underlying bed. Press tile into freshly combed mortar. Bed mortar should cover at least an average of 80% if the total area of the tile for interiors (100% on floors and tiles that will be in contact with water). While the mortar is fresh, verify contact by beating a tile and pushing it against the bed. Remove the tile and verify coverage. If needed, apply more mortar. Wait 24 hours before walking over installed tile.

Technical Data: This product complies with parameters established by ANSI 118.1. Installation must be
performed following ANSI A108.5 guidelines.
