| Carmelo
is a family owned business that was established
in 1955 by Carmelo Figueroa and his wife Sara Padilla.
Initially, Carmelo was a manual masonry manufacturing
operation located in the town of Naranjito. Fueled
by the rapid growth of Puerto Rico’s economy
during Operation Bootstrap, Carmelo expanded its
operations considerably. By 1977 the company had
become mainly an aggregates producer and achieved
a successful transition as a second generation family
business.
Productora de Agregados, founded
in 1977, Canarico Quarries, acquired in 1995 and Cantera Carmelo acquired in 2004,
make up our construction materials division and
produce aggregates and manufactured sands that are
used in nearly every form of construction.
Currently,
we are developing Agregados Carmelo at the Cantera
Virgen del Carmen quarry in the Dominican Republic
in order to export aggregates to Puerto Rico as
well as other islands in the Caribbean region and
the East Coast of the United States.
